Chef’sChoice 609 Meat Slicer Review: 13 Years Later

russej02 · Sep 10 · 2 min read · Updated: Sep 15

I've owned and used the Chef'sChoice 609 meat slicer for about 13 years, so this isn't a review based on a few days of use. In this review I'll show how it has held up, what I still like about it, what I don't, and whether I'd buy it again today.

My Experience After 13 Years

I bought this slicer years ago and have continued using it long enough to have a pretty good idea of what holds up and what doesn't. That's the biggest difference between this review and a typical unboxing — I can actually look back at more than a decade of ownership and tell you whether it was worth buying.

The Chef'sChoice 609 has been discontinued, but you can check Amazon for current availability or similar meat slicers.

What I Like About the Chef'sChoice 609

The biggest thing for me is that it has simply lasted. After about 13 years, it still does the job I bought it for. It's easy to set the slice thickness, it handles meat and cheese well, and it has been reliable enough that I never felt the need to replace it just for the sake of upgrading.

What I Don't Like About the Chef'sChoice 609

One thing that has always stood out to me is that some of the internal gears are plastic. That gave me some concern when I first bought it, but after about 13 years of use, they have held up without becoming a problem. So while I would still prefer metal gears, I can't really complain about the durability based on my experience.

Would I Buy It Again?

Yes. Based on how long this slicer has lasted, I'd consider it money well spent. The 609 itself is discontinued now, but my experience with it has been positive enough that I'd still look at Chef'sChoice first if I were shopping for another meat slicer today.

Final Thoughts

After about 13 years of ownership, the Chef'sChoice 609 has turned out to be one of those appliances that simply keeps doing its job. It isn't perfect, and the plastic gears gave me some concern early on, but they've held up far longer than I expected. If I had to make the purchase again, I would.
